Joe Shea

ttn10-10-joesheaphoto.JPG

Age: 54

Born: Ankara, Turkey. Father was in US Air Force.

Occupation: Prosthodontist.  (Little-known dental specialty of restoring or replacing lost teeth or parts of teeth. Specifically, I specialize in crowns, bridges, partial dentures, complete dentures and non-specialty treatments such as implants and TMJ.)

Family: Wife: Stacey; 4 kids: Chris, Kate, Marty (runner), Jaclyn.

Favorite restaurant: Vin de Set.

Movie: The Outlaw Josey Wales (Casablanca close second).

Favorite book: Think and Grow Rich (What the mind can conceive and believe, you can achieve!).

Why did you start running: Because I LOVE it. Ran cross country and track in high school (SLUH). Promptly took 19 years off after graduating, then got back into it seriously in 1993.

Running since: SLUH fall 1970 cross country.

SLTC member since: 1993.

How did you learn about the SLTC: How do you not hear about the Track Club?

Miles a week: Usually 30-35. Now doing 50-plus training for Lewis & Clark Marathon (Oct. 3) and hoping to qualify for Boston.

Favorite place to run: Running in neighborhood. Close seconds: Queeny Park, Forest Park, Castlewood. And I can't count how many times in my life I've run around Francis Park.

Favorite workout: Blasting out 3M in morning before going to work.

Favorite performance: Hopefully by the time you read this qualifying for Boston.

Favorite SLTC event: Frostbite Series. Keeps me going during the winter.

What do you like best about the SLTC: Bringing like-minded runners of all levels together.

What do you want others to know about you: Got to keep moving or you'll grow old.  And I will not gracefully grow old!

NOTE: Joe qualified for the Boston Marathon based on his marathon time at the Lewis & Clark run on Oct. 3, 2010.
